The Taj Mahal is open from 30 minutes before sunrise until 30 minutes before sunset, every day except Friday, when it closes for prayers at the mosque inside the complex. Sunrise in Agra ranges from about 5:25 AM in June to about 7:10 AM in January, so tour start times change through the year.
Entry tickets are set by the Archaeological Survey of India. Recent 2026 sources list the ticket for most foreign nationals at roughly ₹1,100 to ₹1,300, with an extra ₹200 to enter the main mausoleum chamber where the tombs sit. Indian citizens pay ₹50, visitors from SAARC and BIMSTEC countries pay a reduced rate, and children under 15 enter free. Prices change, so check the official ASI portal close to your date, or ask us to confirm when you book.
Petrol and diesel vehicles cannot approach the monument, to protect the marble from pollution, so the final stretch to the gate is covered by electric shuttle or on foot.

In December and January, morning fog can hide the monument for the first hour, so a slightly later start often gives better views than sunrise. And if you only have one day in India and you are exhausted from a long flight, a 3 AM departure may not be the memory you want.
